The CGO, an "external" organisation from 2003 to 2008, wished to adopt an appropriate legal status taking into account its tasks and the type of player participating in its operation. The GIP appeared as the most relevant form proposed by the trustees, the French Ministry of Research and INCa.
Thus the GIP CGO was created so that the public and private bodies which wanted to subscribe to this programme undertake research and technological development activities together.
